Auditions:
-PARENTS, please read this page with your children-
Any student who wishes to perform in the musical must submit a video-recorded audition to Mr. Quiñones no later than Sunday, March 2nd. For details on how to submit an audition, which song to perform, and which scene to read from, see the list below. Please read carefully beyond the list for some important clarifications. Before auditioning, please check the schedule by clicking the "schedule" page above. Students with too many conflicts may not be eligible to participate in Drama Club.
If you are interested in "auditioning" for stage crew instead, click here.
A complete audition will include:
Audition Details:
2. A singing performance on a song from Shrek The Musical Jr recorded and submitted on the Caroline Street Drama Club SeeSaw page. As a reminder, your child does not currently have access to this page. They will be granted access once Mr. Quinones receives a complete parent email.
3. An acting performance of a scene from Shrek The Musical Jr, recorded in the same video as your singing and submitted on SeeSaw.
4. Please print, sign, and submit the Drama Club Contract by Monday, March 3rd.
*Scene options will be listed below. Choose one scene that shows your best acting. You might want to choose the scene that includes a certain character you are auditioning for. Each scene choice has more than one character talking. You can either read for every character , or choose a character and only read their lines. *SeeSaw can be accessed from your child's "Clever" page, which they often use in school.
*If you have too many listed conflicts, you will not be able to be in the show.
*Once Mr. Q receives and approves any conflicts, those can be the only days a students misses. These conflicts should be sent to Mr. Q before March 2nd, 2025, which is the day auditions will close. The exceptions are sickness keeping your child home from school, or emergencies. Outside of those exceptions, a student may not miss rehearsal or leave early on a day they are scheduled to attend. After a 2nd "unexcused absence" (or a 2nd unexcused early dismissal), your role in the show may be changed or you may lose your role.
*Most cast members will not be asked to attend every single rehearsal. For example, there may be days when only the Fairytale Creatures rehearse, and other days where only the lead characters rehearse. A detailed, character-specific schedule is posted on the "Schedule" page of this website. Once the cast list is sent out, please check the schedule at the beginning of each week so you know exactly when your character has to rehearse.
*It is unacceptable to miss any rehearsals during Tech Week (the week of our performance). Please double check the master schedule and make sure there are no conflicts Saturday 5/10 to Saturday 5/17. A student must also be available on each performance date to be in the show (Fri. 5/16 and Sat. 5/17).
*If cast in the show, there will be a tuition to help support the cost of costumes, props, club t-shirts, and the cast and crew party. The cost is $65 for cast members and $50 for crew members. This cost will not prevent anyone from participating in the club, and no payment will be necessary until after the cast and crew list is announced. PTA-sponsored scholarships are available.

A complete audition will include:
- A parent email
- A song
- A scene
- A signed contract
Audition Details:
- A parent email sent to [email protected]. This email should:
- Confirm that the student has permission to join the Drama Club.
- Confirm that both parents and the student have read, understand, and agree to each item in the Drama Club Contract (click here to access). The contract should also be printed, signed, and submitted to Mr. Quinones in person.
- Confirm the student's availability to attend every rehearsal (to view the master schedule, click here). If a student will have to miss a rehearsal or leave early from any rehearsal, these conflicts must be listed in this email as well. If your child does not have any conflicts, please include that as well.
*Please note: This email should be the first step of the audition process. This year's audition videos must be submitted on the Caroline Street Drama Club SeeSaw page. While your child does have access to SeeSaw, they cannot currently access this particular page yet. Mr. Quiñones will manually add each student to this SeeSaw page, once he receives and reads the official parent permission email.
An email that does not include each of the three criteria above will delay your child's access to the official SeeSaw page, as Mr. Quinones will follow up and request further information. (It may take up to two days for your child to be added to the Drama Club SeeSaw page after a complete email is sent.)
Videos submitted to any other SeeSaw page (i.e. their classroom page, their Music page) will not be accepted. Please double check that your child is submitting their audition to the "Caroline Street Drama Club 2025 (Shrek The Musical, JR.)" SeeSaw page under the "Cast Auditions" assignment.

3. An acting performance of a scene from Shrek The Musical Jr, recorded in the same video as your singing and submitted on SeeSaw.
4. Please print, sign, and submit the Drama Club Contract by Monday, March 3rd.

Characters
Storytellers
Wonderful roles for performers with natural stage presence and big, clear voices. These characters are important for setting up the world and moving the story forward. Best for bold, energetic actors.
Shrek
He may be a big, scary, green ogre to the rest of the world, but as the story reveals, he's really just a big fellow with a big heart. Shrek should be a solid singer and an excellent actor with great comedy.
Fiona
She may appear to be perfect princess straight from the fairy tale books, but there is more to her than meets the eye. She is a stubborn girl with a sense of humor and sometimes acts more like a teenage boy than a princess. Fiona should be a very strong actor, singer, and dancer.
Lord Farquaad
A very short man with HUGE plans! He is only interested in gaining as much power as possible. This is a role for a good singer, but most importantly, for a comedian who isn't afraid of making bold choices or looking silly.
Donkey
An outgoing, loud, fast-talking animal with no "mute" button... Also Shrek's ever-faithful sidekick. Should be an experienced performer who can sing well and has great presence and character.
Dragon
A perfect role for someone with a lot of soul and spunk. She is a ferocious fire-breathing dragon but finds a surprising love in Donkey. Should have tremendous presence and a good pop singing voice.
Pinocchio
The wooden boy who cannot tell a lie without his nose growing. Pinocchio begins in a sour mood about getting kicked out of his home, but ends the story as a natural leader among the Fairy Tale Creatures. Should have lot of personality and should sing well. Some people give Pinocchio a funny-sounding high-pitched voice, like in the Shrek movie. Feel free to try that if you are auditioning for Pinocchio!
Gingy
A great for a talented performer with high energy. Gingy is based on the Gingerbread Man who runs away from the people trying to bake him! Sings a solo in "Freak Flag".
Young Fiona and Teen Fiona
Young Fiona and Teen Fiona are younger versions of Fiona and should have solid singing voices. They are featured in the song "I Know it's Today".
Mama Ogre and Papa Ogre
Good roles for a dynamic duo that can kick off the show with a lot of energy and presence. Must be good singers.
Little Ogre
A role just right for a younger performer. He may not have lines but he is very important to the storytelling.
The Three Little Pigs
Pig 1, Pig 2 And Pig 3. The classic three little pigs with a German twist. It isn't necessary that they look identical; They should just be a fun and dynamic trio.
Ugly Duckling
He may be bitter about his unfortunate appearance, but he does find friends among his fellow fairy tale outcasts. This is a fun comedic role for a performer.
The Three Bears
Mama Bear, Papa Bear, and Baby Bear. They have have some featured solos in a couple songs.
Wicked Witch
She has a big personality! No one's gonna bring her down... Also has a solo in "Story of My Life".
Big Bad Wolf
He doesn't need to be a scary, threatening big-bad-wolf type. At this point, he's a pretty tame wolf who is wearing Little Red Ridinghood's grandmother's dressing gown.
Peter Pan
The boy who never grew up, and he continues to act the part in this story.
Captain Of The Guard
This role is just right for an actor with some strength and authority. He or she should have a big, booming voice and should not be scared to put all the Fairy Tale Creatures in their place.
Dwarf
Farquaad's comparably short and grumpy father. This is a perfect cameo role for a performer.
Ensemble- anyone who does not have a speaking role is considered to be part of the "ensemble", where you don't have any lines but you do sing and dance with the group. Some of the above characters are part of the below ensemble groups as well. The ensemble groups in Shrek are:
- Fairy Tale Creatures
- Knights
- Guards
- Duloc Performers
- Rats
- Woodland Creatures
Other background characters with small, featured parts:
